Social workers in providing professional services often encounter ethical dilemmas, especiallythose who provide professional services for the mental disabled, facing a higher risk. The purpose ofthis study is:1, to understand the types of ethical dilemmas encountered by social workers whenprovide services for the mental disabled;2, to understand the coping strategies taken by social workersin corresponding ethical dilemmas;3, understand the dynamic process of the formation of copingstrategies and the choices of ethical principles and standards of social workers;4, to address theproposal of China's social development and localization according to the findings, and providereferences for future research on the ethical dilemmas of social works.This study used grounded theory of the implementation of research, tooling by outline ofsemi-structured interview,14cases of ethical dilemmas were collected through deep interviews. Afterdiscussing and analyzing, we obtained the following results:We had found out that social workers would encountered five categories of ethical dilemma duringthe processes of servicing the mental disabled:1, conflict between different needs from service objectsand well-beings;2, conflict between the respect to the interests of the service objects and the obedienceto the agency of social workers;3, conflict between personal security of social workers and the interestsof the service objects;4, to take the interests of institution service objects or concern about thedisadvantaged groups fairly as priority;5, self-determinations of service objects and professionalpatriarchal.Social workers' coping strategies of the ethical dilemmas are co-determined by the self-cognitiveas a social worker and the types of ethical dilemma, also, the complete formation of a coping strategy isconstructed by two steps: First, the cognition of the service objects on the types of plight and theirself-awareness of their own role in plight events, second, the specific response measures takenaccording to the type of plight and role cognition, and these ultimately form a complete coping strategy.The specific measures taken by social workers in institutions facing different types of ethicaldilemmas had formed some particular principles of choice and standards, which including:1, the needsof basic survival prior to the needs of capacity, the needs of capacity prior to the needs of respects;2,the long-term benefits prior to short-term benefits of the same demand;3, the interests of service objectsprior to the interests of institutions, the self interests of social workers and the interests of other groupsof society;4, the rights of self-determinations of service objects prior to their well-beings;5, theself-determinations of service objects prior to the professional authorities of social workers.After the discussion of research findings, this study proposes a number of advices:1, for education of social work:(1)to develop the ethics courses of social work, and the designs andthe arrangements of curriculum should take practice as direction;(2) the textbooks and content of ethicscourses should focus on the orientation of localization, establishing suitable system of ethics coursestextbook with Chinese social and cultural soil as soon as possible.2, for social-working departments in charge:(1) to lay down the professional ethical principles,adapted to national and social conditions rapidly;(2) to strengthen the supervision and support ofsocial-working agencies and social workers.3, for the research department of social work: It should be a research directed by the systematictheme of "Values and Ethics of Social Work", to appeal all the existent researching talents give themselves to the studies of ethics of social workers, especially go deep into the front-line practice ofsocial workers. Also, to make full use of research resources in possession, with more researchers takingpart in, the whole professional level would be improved.
