Since the reform and opening up, Chinese rural society has undergone great changes, manyof the unique social and cultural phenomenon and customs are shrinking or even disappear. However, with the two changes of modernization and urbanization, traditional marriage paymentphenomenon in rural society, especially the bride price and dowry phenomenon has notdisappeared; it still exists as a stable social customs among the people living in rural areas, relyingon marriage payment behavior in people's daily life. But at the same time it is changing and isdifferent in content and level in the past. Therefore, the author hopes to find the specific situationof rural marriage payment through in-depth field research, and answer the two questions: whymarriage payment can exist steadily and why the specific aspects (the content, structure, level ofmarriage payment) are different from the past. Previous studies on marriage payment haveexplain the two questions in different ways, but either explaining as the result of individualrational choice, or interpreting as determined by the social structure. In my opinion, the two arelack of adequate explanation. So I resort to Bourdieu's practical sociological theory, using "field","habitus","capital" and other basic concepts to examine the marriage payment behavior of ruralfield. Exploring what effects on marriage payment behavior and how the people in the fieldconstruct the marriage payment habitus. The author also intends to find reasons why the marriagepayment exists but changes in specific aspects ultimately restore the status of marriage payment. Finally, according to the answer on the inheritance and change of marriage payment we coulddiscuss and anticipate possible future of marriage payment.
