In recent years, GIS technology has been used in secondary school geography teaching and learning activities.To some extent, these software enriches the means of geography teaching in secondary schools and improves teaching effect.However, most of them is two-dimensional and not web-based.And some is too over-specialized to be suitable for students and techers in high school.As3D GIS has a distinct advantage of simulating geographical phenomena and laws, it increasingly becomes an important area of GIS research and applications.Therefore, many secondary school teachers directly use web-based3D GIS software——Google Earth to assist geography teaching and it produces a good response.However, Google Earth is not designed for the geography teaching in middle school but a public-oriented three-dimensional GIS software,so directly apply Google Earth to classroom teaching will bring a lot of inconvenience.As a result, to explore and develope web-based3D GIS teaching software which is suitable for secondary school geography teaching has great practical significance.This paper discussed a new technical framework and key technology of3D web GIS, which took the Google Earth API as basis.on the basis of this technical route, we research and developed a3D GIS that was used for auxiliary geography teaching in middle school. The main research contents of this paper including:(1)Discuss a new pattern and method about3D GIS. OLE automation and Plugin technology are traditional develop pattern, they are mutually independent and with their own advantages and disadvantages. This paper packages the Google Earth API to be a standard COM interface, and research the main technology, and then explore a new web3D GIS develop pattern which based on Google Earth API.(2) Discuss some key technologies on the basis of Google Earth API. Such as navigation path in3D scene,2D and3D integration, integrate local data, interactive scene modeling, event listener and callback.we also did some development practice responsibly.(3) In accordance with the requirements of equipment standard of the high school geography teaching, combines geography teaching practice, we research and develop a3D web geography teaching system based on web. This system realize following function:sightseeing tour, camera control, from2D to3D,layer control,3D navigation path and star quest. This system is easy to use, combines geography textbooks and new syllabus closely.Many education workers have realized the importance of3D GIS use in geography teaching, and try to do some researches. The first editions of this system in this paper have been finished and begin to be use. With the depth of its application, we will perfect the function of it, and improve its service performance in the activity of geography teaching. It will drive the realization of the goal of quality education in basic education, and play a positive role the popularization of research learning method.
