Cross-border ethnic groups are outcomes of nation development and modern international politics. They belong to different countries, have different national values and sensibility. However, due to the common history and culture, there are communality, diversity and strong sense of identity among these nations.China is not only a multinational country, but also has a large number of cross-border nations. Cross-border ethnic groups living in Yunnan and Vietnam have distinctive characteristics beside the commonness with other cross ethnic groups. The problems of cross-border ethnic groups living in Yunnan and Vietnam are not racial but difficult to resolve because they are small like recurring illness in human body. This study attempts to research daily lives of cross-border ethnic groups and to restore the real prospect from the view of cultural groups and national ethnic groups. From the view of cultural group to research the cross-border ethnic groups, we focus on interactions between these groups who have the common ethnicity, culture and psychological features. Although they are living in two different countries, their ethnic tradition is still kept in. Ethnic identity makes them interact across the border, such as cross-border marriage, business, working, meeting friends and cultural exchanges. Cross-border marriages based on ethnicity and ethnic identity, economic trade based on geopolitical contact and interaction based on the blood relationship do not break off by the national border. In summary, these interactions between cross-border ethnic groups are good for relationship of the two countries both for their culture and economic development. However, the increasing ethnic and geopolitical consciousness might weaken their national identity which is negative influence for these two countries. It is inadequate to research cross-border ethnic groups only from one view. Cross-border ethnic groups living in Yunnan and Vietnam are special groups that belong to Chinese56ethnic groups and cross-border groups. Ethnic identity of cross-border ethnic groups is sense of belonging to their nation, but national identity is a wider content which include the individual responsibility, sense of belonging to the nation, and the obligation for the whole country. Therefore, this study chooses the view of national identity to research interactions of these cross-border ethnic groups. It reveals that the key problem is not lacking of cohesiveness or national identity, but the lower economic developing level in this area. Furthermore, we have to rethink the policies and help them to become rich to make the frontier region peace. In summary, this study changes the immediate media method that to research what is hotspot. Through study the daily living of cross-border ethnic groups living in Yunnan and Vietnam, we could rethink how to construct the spirit frontier regions to make the cross-border ethnic groups be orderly.
