Popular science is the popularization activities of science and technology with the purpose of improving the quality of national science, and the popular science's fundamental task is to popularize scientific knowledge, scientific approaches scientific thinking and scientific spirit in various ways and means in the whole society. Science work has special significance in the 21st century with the rapid development of science and technology and knowledge-driven economy. The success of popular science work carried out is directly related to the quality of a country's level of national scientific, related to the strength of a nation's comprehensive national strength and related to the rise and fall of a country and nation. Therefore, it is very necessary to strengthen science popularization.Against the times background that each government regards improving the quality of national science as a basic national policy, the consensus of all levels of government is to increase the attention of the work of popular science and bring popular scientific undertakings into government policy level. With the great concern and attention of the party and government, China's popular science has made some progress. However, practice shows that, at this stage in the work of popular science, there are still a number of aspects and links which are not in accordance with the current development of society and times and citizens were not enthusiastic about popular science. Compared with developed countries, significant gaps still exist in China's popular science work and popular science work lags behind. The starting point of this research is how to solve these problems and shortcomings, to truly implement the work of popular science, making the cause of our country's popular science develop towards a healthy and orderly direction.Based on the definition of popular science, science policy and the related concepts and based on the science policy promulgation and implementation and the important and significant events in the new era, in accordance with the background of various stages and achievements, he thesis divides the new period popular science work into four stages:1.The resumption of development of popular science in the new period (1978-1993); 2.The reflections on the work of popular science exploration in the new period (1994-2001); 3.The deepening development period in new work of popular science in the new period (2002-2005); 4.The maturity and consumption in the work of popular science in the new period (2006-now).At the same time, based on the sociology of science perspective, the integrated use of the literature research, statistics and comparative study, analysis of induction and other methods, theory and practice, the qualitative and quantitative analysis, detailed analysis of all results achieved during the popular science work, popular science concept and the improvement of science policy development; the thesis probes into the classification of popular science, expounds science policy implementation, policy evaluation and other aspects of popular science. Aiming at the shortcomings of science popularization, the thesis makes a more in-depth analysis and puts forward some pertinent, workable strategies and suggestions to solve the problems and shortcomings in the popular science in the new era, such as the attachment of great importance to science from strategic; further improvement of the science policy system; sound establishment of science institutions; further broadening of popular science channels. At the same time, the thesis explores the implementation of the path of science, highlights the weak links in level of the field to ensure the people's livelihood and promote harmony; highlight the vulnerable groups of migrant workers in the group level; strengthen the selection mechanism of student village official, vice township head, the county magistrate of science and technology, to further improve the work of popular science, and to effectively improve the implementation of results. Based on the above analysis of several aspects, the thesis hopes to provide some useful theoretical exploration and practice guidance for the development and improvement of popular science.
