With the advent of the knowledge-based economy and the escalating competition in global economy, a consensus has been reached that one can only stand in an unbeaten place among many enterprises with advantageous of core competences. China's small and medium-sized private enterprises are still in the phase of transition and growth, so their human resource management system is not yet complete, and the limitations of internal management level seriously hinder their sustainable development. Performance management is the core module of human resource management. Performance management activities in human resources management system of small and medium-sized private enterprises in China shows that it still needs to be improved and renovated. Performance management has been generally applied in many enterprises, but some obvious problems are becoming a threat to the healthy development of enterprise management.To solve these problems tentatively, this thesis defines the objects of study, which include: the definition of household-appliance retail enterprises and their characteristics, the impact of knowledge economy on the performance management of household-appliance retail enterprises. The thesis first introduces relevant theories, including the implication of performance, performance evaluation and performance management as well as their roles in the performance management system. Then it deals with problems existing in the practice of performance management and bugs in the main body of performance. It also sums up the kickbacks of poor performance management to individuals, enterprises and society. In the end, the thesis casts light on basic practices small and medium-sized private enterprises adopt to evaluate the performance of sales personnel, carries out a systematic analysis of the problems in the evaluation and puts forward some countermeasures correspondingly to the misunderstandings and shortcomings of China's small and medium-sized private enterprises in the performance management.This thesis aims at rectifying misconceptions and deficiency in the performance management of China's small and medium-sized private household-appliance retail enterprises and exploring a new path to enhance their performance and internal competitiveness.
