At present, China is in a special period of economic transition. Market economy is not mature enough, and planned economy still exists in some areas at the same time. In other words, there are a large number of conflicts and contradictions in the current market economy. Of course, the factor market is inevitable. As one of the most important factor market, the labor market met with economic transition and system change in the first time. Our labor market is in the crucial moment of transition, in continuous improvement and building stage as well. At this stage, one of the most outstanding problems is discrimination. Discrimination is incompatible with the nature of market, and its existence and influence have already produced negative effects to the normal running of the labor market, so it has become very essential and urgent to launch a systematic and deeply study theoretically.Countries all over the world have been concerned the discrimination problem of labor market for a long time. Both theorists and ordinary people are concerned with the issue of discrimination. Since 1957, Becker began to study the issue of discrimination. Various theories of discrimination appeared on and on. Then western nations gradually formed a discrimination theory system of labor market. However, the study of the discrimination in labor market of China started late. Until the end of last century, Chinese scholars just began to study discrimination. Especially in the new century, under the growing employment pressure, the employment problem became people's focus. From then on, people began to pay attention to the labor market discrimination. Meanwhile, theorists and scholars became interested in the issue of discrimination, and some committed to the research of discrimination in hopes of finding the causes of discrimination, as well as the solution of discrimination. These scholars confirmed the existence of discrimination and its economic effects. Admittedly, their research on discrimination provides us with in-depth reference, but these studies have not clearly pointed out the root of discrimination. At the moment, discrimination in labor market of China is very intense. Kinds of discrimination cases appear in the news media, newspapers and magazines frequently. Meanwhile, more and more employees resort to court because of discrimination. Discrimination issue gradually becomes an irreconcilable contradiction between the labor suppliers and the demanders. Therefore, it is urgent to study the discrimination in labor market of China. Labor and employment practice of labor market take an example for discrimination study.Compared to discrimination in labor market of western world, discrimination in labor market of China has its particularity. In our mind, the most important identities in China are called household registration and region, so that discrimination usually presents household discrimination and regional discrimination in our labor market. In the final analysis, discrimination is the result of the social system with Chinese characteristics. As a result, this study focuses on the status discrimination in the labor market, especially on household registration and regional identity discrimination. This study also provides an answer to the persistence of identity discrimination. The reason is:China's unique institutional factors and economic transition factors work together.Because discrimination issues in labor market has relations to Chinese social history and transition factors, this study should be written within the framework of political economy, combined with the methods of research literature, comparative analysis, institutional analysis and case studies on the identity discrimination. This thesis has five parts. First part tells us the theories and literature reviews of labor market discrimination; second part will give us a clear definition of discrimination and identity discrimination; the third part simply describes the situation of identity discrimination in labor market of China; the fourth part is the political economy analysis of identity discrimination; the last part gives some suggestions on identity discrimination.The possible innovation and features of this thesis are as follows:first of all, it is the combination of the basic discrimination theory and the actual situation of our labor market; then it is a great attempt to involve Chinese-characteristics institutional factors and economic transition factors into the study.
