In the past 30 years, domestic and international scholars have done a lot of work to study the problems of the efficiency of commercial banks and have formed series of systematic theories and methods. By comparison, the study about this field was started late in China. The achievements is aslo very limited compared to that in developed countries.Based on lots of literatures, drawing on existing research results, this paper selects a representative of 14 commercial banks as the research object, and selecting DEA and SFA methods as a research tool which have special advantages and complementary strengths to study the efficiency of commercial banks. Through the establishment of an objective, comprehensive and feasible index system, getting the status of efficiency of commercial banks in China through the model estimates, and based on this, this paper tries to find out the advantages and disadvantages of commercial banks and to explore the deeper impact of China's commercial Bank efficiency factor, which can improve status of operation and efficiency of commercial banks has a certain theoretical and practical significance. The paper is divided into five chapters, and it systematic described the status of the development of China's commercial banks, the factors that affect the efficiency and improve the efficiency of commercial banks countermeasures. Details are as follows:First, the introduction of the paper discussed the paper background, purpose and meaning, status, the main content and method of possible innovative paper and shortcomings.Second, measure theory of commercial banks and major research methods are reviewed. This paper explains the connotation of efficiency and efficiency of commercial banks. At the same time, this peper focuses on the non-parametric method parametric method DEA model and the cost-effectiveness model.Third, taking into account the bank's asset size, data availability and the convenience of horizontal comparison, the empirical study selectes four large state-owned commercial banks and 10 representative joint-stock banks as research sample. As defined in the original method of input-output, based on the re-set the input and output indicators, input indicators are:the number of bank employees, physical capital and loanable funds, output indicators are:interest income and non interest income. And then use SFA and DEA models to calculate and analyze commercial banks'technical efficiency, scale efficiency and cost-effectiveness in China from 1999 to 2008 respectively.Based on thess results, conclusions of the two methods were tested, and it shows that the correlation between them is very good.Fourth, based on the empirical part of the study, drawing on existing research results, affectting factors of efficiency of commercial banks in China were divided into three main aspects:the macroeconomic, industry factors and micro factors, and then the paper describes specific factors of these three factors in detail.Fifth, finally, on the basis of the qualitative and quantitative analysis, In order to enhance the efficiency of commercial banks in China as soon as possible, this part puts forward countermeasures and suggestions from the strengthening of financial supervision and promoting the reform of the banking market, scale expansion should be coordinate with technological innovation and personnel training and so five aspects.
