The transfer of rural surplus labor force is the inevitable result of social and economic development, and it is also the major problems of economic transition in China. At present, our country's rural surplus labor issue is very outstanding. A large number of rural surplus labors are still remaining in rural areas. It restrcit the healthy development of the rural economy and make the gap between urban and rural economy further widening. Then it would make the'three rural issues'and the whole hamonious society more serious. Chongqing, as the only municipalities in western China, is our country's basic conditions. It stacks the eastern phenomenon and western phenomenon in our country. At the same time , it has its own unique policy advantages as an epitome of rural-urban synthetically reform testing district. Based on these, this paper focuses on the research of Chongqing rural surplus labor and rural economic development.At first, this paper comments the rural surplus labor force and rural economic development theory, then described the definition of rural surplus labor concept and estimation method. Secondly, my paper taking the transfer of rural surplus labor force in Chongqing as a breakthrough point, then analyze the situation and characteristics between the transfer of rural surplus labor force and the rural economic development. Thirdly, through the quantitative relationship between the two studies to confirm their interaction. And then separately from the surplus rural labor force to promote the development of rural economy and side effect, also analyze the rural economic development of rural surplus labor absorption and extrusion effect. At last, this paper put forward recommendations from vigorously developing agricultural production and development non-agricultural industries, the urbanization process, adjusting rural education structure and active exerting the function of government and so on.
