Development Of The Tertiary Industry In Chongqing

As the fourth municipality, Chongqing has been greatly increasing its GDP and per capita productivity and has been keeping a rapid growth and improvement since it obtained its municipal status. With the development of its economy, some problem emerged. The industrial structure is unreasonable, the tertiary industry development falls behind, the industrial level is under-developed, the proportion of the tertiary industry is small, the dual structure of urban-rural is obvious, the city is facing the problem of layoff workers and unemployment in countryside. The tertiary industry has not improved the dual structure of urban-rural and enhanced the employment rate. So, the research is to make a comprehensive analysis of the existing condition and tendency of Chongqing s tertiary industry. And accordingly, in view of the difficult position which emerges, discovers the restriction factors of the industrial development and formulates corresponding countermeasure.The paper reorganizes the related theories of the tertiary industry, and on base of them, analyzes the existing condition and tendency of Chongqing s tertiary industry and its various industry department. In the present analysis, there are profound descriptions on the tertiary industry and its various industry departments from aspects of added-value, structure and employment. In addition, through quotient of location analysis and comparison with Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai, the paper positions the level of Chongqing s tertiary industry. In the tendency analysis, the paper predicts the tendency of the output and employment of Chongqing tertiary industry during the period of the twelfth five-year-plan by using the proportion of output model and Holt exponential smoothing method. According to the result, it is found that the employment of Chongqing s tertiary industry will develop well, while the output in which the traditional industries will still account for a great proportion remains a low growth rate. Also the paper uses SWOT analysis method and lists the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Chongqing s tertiary industry.Based on the research above, the paper raises several pieces of advice for the development of Chongqing s tertiary industry during the period of the twelfth five-year-plan .
