In recent years, with the raising of interest rates by the central bank, the necessity of meeting the requirements of loan to deposit ratio and the Basel Capital Accord, the battle among domestic banks are becoming increasing hot. Under this complex and difficult circumstance, domestic commercial banks are paying more attentions to the management of their sub-branches, which play as the basic service-providing and marketing role in the operating of a commercial bank.Thus, how to improve the operating performance, through the reform in the management of sub-branches, by using the delicacy methods, has caught the eyes of most domestic commercial banks. To domestic commercial banks, the Delicacy Management of the sub-branches means to manage different sub-branches diversely, according to their different characteristics, and the various markets and clients they're facing. Most domestic commercial banks have begun the research of this field long time ago, some of which have even put the research outcomes into practical use, and have gotten some satisfying results already. Bank of China was the first bank who began this research in china, and other bank, like China Construction Bank and China Bank of Commercial and Industry are also carrying out the same research now.As a state-owned commercial bank, Sichuan ZH bank has completed its joint-stock reform a couple of years ago, and the research of the delicacy management of sub-branches has just been put on its agenda, much later than most state-owned commercial banks in Sichuan province. Therefore, the purpose of this paper, is aiming to help Sichuan ZH bank building a systematic and scientific method of Delicacy Management of their sub-branches. In order to do that, one have to do the classification of sub-branches firstly, based on their verified characteristics, by using Key Performance Indicators. Secondly, one have to propose different management methods for different types of sub-branches. Lastly, one have to find solutions for task assign, performance assessment, personnel staffing and other specific matters involving in the Delicacy Management of sub-branches.The key part of this paper are how to find the right Key Performance Indicators involving in the classification of ZH bank's sub-branches, and How to find a delicacy management method, which is applicable in practical work for ZH bank. On these pursers, I spent a half year in different sub-branches of ZH bank, doing field research and data collecting works. Thus, the data and models I used in the paper are not academic but real, and those specific management methods I proposed in this paper have not only been put into practice in ZH bank's already, but also have made some progress in helping improve the bank's operating performance.
