The Structure Effect And Spatial Effect Of Agglomeration Of Manufacturing Industry In China

Based on previous studies, this paper use the data of 28 manufacturing industries in 31 provinces of China to measure the tend of agglomeration of manufacturing industry in China with the composite index of industrial scale. It also analyse the changes about the structure effect and spatial effect of agglomeration of manufacturing industry in China by Shift-share model, and further it compares the labor level between regions with remuneration of labour and labor productivity to study the changes of unit labor costs.The research shows that: (1) the agglomeration of Chinese manufacturing industry displays a situation of"the east inclined extremely", only a few industries relying on resoures has a clear geographical distribution tendency in central and western regions in china; (2) in central and western regions the effect of the agglomeration in promoting economic development is larger than which in the eastern region. And the agglomeration in the eastern region is becoming saturated, the role of economic growth began to be weaken, and even has a certain impediment to some industries. Industry has the tendency to transfer from the eastern regions; (3) capital-intensive manufacturing industrial agglomeration effect on economic growth lagged behind the labor-intensive and technology-intensive manufacturing industry, and it shows that the imbalance of industrial structure is obvious. The conclusions of the research have the important theoretic significance to the transfer, restructure and upgrading of Chinese manufacturing industry, narrow the economic gap and promote the harmonious development between eastern and western regions today.
