With technological and social progress, the quality of textile technology and textileproducts has been improving. People’s requirement for wearability of fabric is more thanthat before, fabric tearing and cracking behavior are the main factors of fabric breaking.They not only affect the appearance of fabric, but also affect the fabric’s value in use,therefore it is necessary to research on fabric tearing and cracking performance.In the article, interweaving resistance cracking and tearing process were analyzed. Itconcluded the relation between interweaving resistance with tearing and with cracking. Byanalyzing the special information on fabric tearing curves, the indexes about fabric tearingprocess were obtained. They are respectively tear initial slope, average peak ascending ratio,average peak descending ratio, maximum range of tear peak, peak frequency, average peakvalue distance, average valley value distance, peak value standard differentiate and valleyvalue standard differentiate. The relation between fabric cracking performance and theseindexes was analyzed.Fabrics with five different tightness and five different fabric textures are made for therelative testing. By testing warp-wise and weft-wise fabric crack behavior, the result showsthat:with tightness adding, for the same texture, warp (weft)-wise fabric crack valuedecreases; with increasing texture mean floating length, for the same tightness, warp(weft)-wise fabric crack value increases. The fabrics were tested by single-slit tearingexperiment. The tearing phenomena can be divided into tear failure, un-complete breakingtear and complete breaking tear. By analysising on tear curves, the results show that:withthe same tightness, plain weave, simple thorough-hole weave, simple hive weave,1/3righttwill weave and3/8satin weave’s tear indexes: tear initial slope, maximum range of tearpeak, average peak value distance, average valley value distance, peak value standarddifferentiate and valley value standard differentiate increase orderly, average peakascending ratio, average peak descending ratio and peak frequency decrease orderly; withthe same texture, tear initial slope, average peak ascending ratio, average peak descendingratio and peak frequency increase with tightness increasing, maximum range of tear peak,average peak value distance, average valley value distance, peak value standard differentiate and valley value standard differentiate decrease with tightness increasing.average Peak ascending ratio and average peak descending ratio are verse proportional tofabric crack value; maximum range of tear peak, average peak value distance, averagevalley value distance, peak value standard differentiate and valley value standarddifferentiate is positive correlation with fabric crack value, therefore the new indexes aboutfabric crack behavior can deduce the property of fabric crack qualitatively. The researchresults in the article make certain reference to theoretical research on fabric tearing andcracking performance and the relative performance testing of textiles.
