Reheating furnace is not only one of the most important equipment, but also a largeenergy consumer on steel rolling line. It is mainly provides qualified billets duringhot-rolling process. Therefore, it is essential in optimal temperature setting and controllingof reheating furnace to improve heating efficiency and reduce energy consumption for steelindustry. However, the optimal control strategy is still far from mature, and there is littlesuccessful application example. This is because that reheating furnace is a typicalcomplicated industry system. Complex chemical and physical change makes it a systemwith time variety, multi-variable, strong coupling, non-linearity, pure time delay and a lot ofdisturbance factor, and the billet’s temperature can not be measured online. The thesis takes the reheating furnace of a hot mill factory in Wuhan Iron and SteelCompany as an object, based on a3-D temperature visualization monitoring system, usinga large number of field date to build a combustion mode by the way of least squaresidentification, and simulating the model with Simulink. We analyze the characteristics of the combustion control in the furnace and presentedthe characteristics of the radiation energy signal, then introduce the feasible of the furnacecombustion control system. According to the extreme value characteristic between withheating efficiency and ratio of air/fuel, we use the radiation energy signal to set an air-fuelratio self-optimizing control system, and analyze the characteristics of the system. In orderto improve the response characteristics of the control system, we set a radiation-gas flowfuzzy control system, and simulating the mode. The results show that the control systemworks well.
