WEDM is widely used in mold manufacturing areas difficult to cutmaterials and precision machining parts. The current domestic High SpeedWEDM CNC system development lag, can not meet the rapidly changingmarket. Therefore, the development of a modular, low-cost, open WEDMCNC system has a very important significance.An open WEDM CNC system is achieved based on EMC2,all-software NC system the and Ethernet POWERLINK,real-time industrialEthernet. As the Managing controller of the system to the PC from thestation through the FPGA extension of the PC interface for real-time datatransmission between the master and slave by EPL.HMI, motion control, EPL master module and task scheduling all CNCfunctions is achieved on PC. EPL master module communicate with otherEMC2modules through shared memory, and periodically synchronize PCmaster object dictionary data with FPGA from the station’s correspondingdata via Ethernet. EDM unique short fallback functionality implemented viaPC master: the discharge state detection signal from the station is convertedto the corresponding object dictionary data by EPL transferred to the PC.The PC determine motion control strategy according to the discharge state.FPGA controlled station is mainly used for periodically receivingcontrol signal from the master station, while periodically upload thedetective data, conversion of the data with the corresponding physical signal,and to achieve the object dictionary.Finally, DK7725g WEDM bed sample processing, and test cuts showthat this CNC system based on the open-EPL real-time Ethernet work wellon WEDM.
