This research uses laser green remanufacturing technology with brass powder as bondingagent to realize the process of welding carbide block in the wearing complex high speed steeltool. The technical features are as follow: the small heat-affected zone of repair tool, nodistortion; metallurgical combination among Carbide blocks, high speed steel and higher wearresistance; It is appropriate to reduce the hardness of hard alloy and improve carbidetoughness by selecting reasonable parameters. Repair and remanufacturing of the broken toolto the using requirement, especially complex tools, which will be save a lot of materials andfunds, effectively reduce the production cost for the enterprise.The5kW crosscurrent CO2laser device was used to study the method and processparameters of welding YG8carbide block onto the base material of M42high-speed steel. Theoptimal process parameters of laser welding were determined by observing the weldmacrography and microstructure, analyzing microscopic metallographic structure, measuringthe welding cross-section micro-hardness under different process parameters and analyzingthe size of the heat affected zone. Performance of the repaired cutting tool was explored andfeasibility of the cutting tool repair was verified by cutting test.The test results show that the weld quality is better when the power is1100W, weldingspeed is7mm/s and the from coke content is-3mm. The sample microhardness test showsthat laser welding heat affected zone is very small. It is about2~3mm and will not affect theperformance of the base material. The finite element simulation of the plane broach afterwelding shows that the deformation and stress distribution are in the range of materialtolerance and yield strength. The laser welding tools finished cutting test and the wear of toolback slide is in normal wear range. All of the above demonstrated that the wear toolremanufacturing was successfully accomplished.
