Focusing on the discharge process from hopper wagon to dump skip, this research discusses the mechanism and characteristics of dust generating, the dust control plan and the chief equipment used to implement the plan.During the process of discharge, induced airflow comes into being with the ores slipping off the hopper wagon and depositing in the dump, which brings along the dusts hidden among the ores and then overflow from the dump. That’s how the dusts get suspended. Then, without isolation, the dustsdiffuse into the large area around the dumpwith the help of natural wind and thermal current. This would cause troubles for operations and productions and also get the environment polluted.In allusion to this process, the volume of induced air flow was obtained by use theoretical calculations and numerical simulation methods. Furthermore, the induced air distribution was analyzed by using numerical simulation, which affords strong basement for deciding the plan of dust control.Because the characters of induced airflow vary from the spot of ores discharging, and we suggest control plans applied to this situation. According to the operating specialties and specific conditions, the control strategy of the side exhaust style and the control strategy of push-pull airflow are addressed to this condition.According to the side exhaust style control strategy and the push-pull airflow control strategy, orthogonal tests to see how the main factors influence the dust collection efficiency are carried out. The results show the functions that describe the correlation between collection efficiency and main factors. Through comparative analysis between the two strategies, to achieve the full control of dust sauce, the air volume that side exhaust style control strategy needs is less, and the system is less simple, which means little initial investment fee and has easy manipulability.Based on flow ratio method and π theory, as for the side exhaust style control strategy, the dimensionless analysis on main factors has been done. Combined with numerical orthogonal tests, the dimensionless analysis leads to the regression equations of limit flow ratio (KL). And then, we optimized the dust control plan according to the equation.After the improvement of the side exhaust style control strategy, a new type of dust collection equipment is developed to use in the dump skip of an Iron and Steel company.
