Maintainability as an important characteristic of product has decisive influence on its life cycle cost. Maintainability design is a significant way to improve maintainability of product. In order to overcome the shortages of traditional maintainability design method such as high cost, long cycle and difficulty for modify, maintainability design and evaluation methods for product are deeply studied, and disassembly information models for product are structured, and product disassembly sequence planning methods are proposed, and maintainability design and evaluation methods are established to guide maintainability design. Disassembly sequence model and methods for maintainability design is studied thoroughly.Product disassembly model is developed based product’s structure.Rule-based recursive selective disassembly sequence planning method is proposed based on five disassembly rules. Disassembly cost model for product is established to optimize its disassembly sequence. An application example used to illustrate the effectiveness of these methods, is presented combined with power brake.Maintainability design and evaluation is studied thoroughly based on the disassembly sequence planning. Maintenance disassembly process simulation is achieved by using the virtual simulation software Delmia and based on the disassembly sequence planning. Maintainability design and evaluation is studied thoroughly. Evaluation method of visibility, accessibility, RULA analysis and NIOSH analysis based on virtual simulation and maintainability comprehensive evaluation method based on multiple attribute decision-making theory are proposed. And an application example used to illustrate the effectiveness of these methods, is presented combined with cockpit device.Prototype system is developed based on former theoretical principle. Human model is established based on Delmia secondary development technology to support maintenance evaluation. Disassembly sequence planning module is developed based on disassembly sequence planning method theory. By using this module, designers can acquire disassembly sequence, disassembly direction and disassembly cost very clearly to support maintenance disassembly process virtual simulation. The maintainability evaluation modules is developed based on maintainability evaluation theory. By using the modules, designers can realize product maintainability quality very clearly to guide maintainability design.
