Ancient Academy in China has a history of over a thousand years, dated back tothe Tang Dynasty, and flourished through the Song Dynasty, unfortunately declinedin Qing Dynasty. Relative to the ancient Chinese science and non.official orthodoxyof private school, Ancient Academy of Education manifested the spirit of Chinesetraditional culture and characteristics. Ancient Academy is a gathering of ancientwriters, lectures, Brouwer, recreation for the community, but also the local culturalcenter or a school of academic research base.Ancient academy garden reflects the ideas of scholar garden in China on theone hand, on the other hand it is different from the temple garden, residential garden,private garden and Palace garden. Moreover, ancient academy garden demonstratesthe richful meaning of traditional culture and Heaven’s world view. Currently thecarried study of ancient academy garden seems few compared to the study ofeducation model and building. This thesis focuses to summarize the elements andfeatures of Ancient Academy garden based on four cases study (Yuelu academygarden, Bailudong Academy garden, Songyang Academy garden in China andTaoshan Academy garden in Korea). Then, the cultural factors inspired the landscapeof ancient academy garden are also discussed. Eventually this study results will beintegrated into the overall planning of Xiashan Academy Garden in Yantai Explorethe history and growth of Chinese scholars to pursue ideas.Through this project the actual design and in.depth study, summed up thelandscape from the acaemdy location, layout, materials used, spatial conception, andspiritual tradition and so on. To make the landscape and the human spirit to pursuethe relationship. All in all, the discussion and project are mainly to build thereference or provide the inspiration for today’s campus landscape.
