Production control is an important measure for optimizing production running andimproving production performance. The research on the production control strategy of atwo-stage manufacturing system is a hotspot in the field of production control. Therandom variation of production capacity is an important influencing factor forproduction control. This paper focuses on the production control problem of a two-stagemanufacturing system under the condition of the random variation of the productioncapacity, and the (Q,r) production control strategy for the typical two-stagemanufacturing system and the dual threshold control strategy based on the on-offcontrol of the standby system and parameters optimization problem are mainly studied.Firstly, the typical two-stage manufacturing system and the two-stagemanufacturing system with standby system and their optimal control problems aredescribed separately in the condition of the production capacity random variation whichhappens in the final manufacturing system.Secondly, the (Q,r) production control strategy and its parameters optimizationproblem for the typical two-stage manufacturing system is studied. The total productioncost is expressed by the inventory holding cost, the cost of the capacity loss in the finalmanufacturing system, and the production preparation cost in the first manufacturingsystem. The control parameters optimization model is built with the objective ofminimizing the average total production cost. A optimization algorithm based onsimulation is designed for the optimization of the control parameters of the (Q,r)production control strategy.Thirdly, the production control strategy and its parameters optimization problemfor the two-stage manufacturing system with standby system is researched under thecondition of the production capacity random variation. A dual threshold control strategybased on the on-off control of the standby system is proposed for the optimal control ofthe two-stage production system for which the final stage has stochastic productioncapacity. A control parameters optimization model is built with the objective ofminimizing the total production cost which contains the cost of the capacity loss, theinventory holding cost and the extra production cost of the standby system. A geneticalgorithm is adopted to resolve the control parameters optimization problem and anexample is taken to validate the effectiveness of the dual threshold control strategy and its parameters optimization algorithm. Finally, the influences on some performance indexes of the two-stagemanufacturing system which are caused by the variation of the control parameters of thetwo strategies are analyzed by using the method of the system simulation.
