The promising thing for the technology of automatic rivet is that it has some positive elements suchas extending the craft’s life, improving the quality of riveting and the structure fatigue resistibility,liberating the labor force, increasing productivity significantly. For the above reason, it is a crucialtechnology for joining sheet metal.The paper developed Computer Aided Automatic Rivet System (CAAR) by using the tool ofCATIA secondary development. The application realizes: transforming the panel coordinate from onesystem to another, checking whether the placement of the panel is reasonable or not, generating holeranks rapidly, providing a wizard for the fixture design rapidly and programming NC automatically.The terms of the thesis are that:(1) For implementing Coordinate convert functionality, multiple commands which originallybelong to CATIA were encapsulated into a sole interaction with CAA Technology.(2) CAD techniques are adopted to develop the function module of workpiece’s placementreasonableness check. The module can analyze whether the workpiece’s placement satisfy the demandof one setup to complete all machining, and then the placement of the fixtures is proposed.(3) By analyzing the conventional method of design the fixture, the paper decomposes the designtask two sections (regular task and irregular task) with the guidance of KBE. Intelligent design wizardfor fixtures completes the regular task, and the irregular task is to be finished by the command of theCATIA.(4) Common layouts such as single row layout, double row layout, three row layout and circulararrangement are provided for generating Shape-Adaptive hole array rapidly.(5) Auto-Programming of riveted joint was completed with interactive graphic auto-programmingtechnology.The following conclusions are reached:(a) The fixture designed with CAAR is arranged reasonably;(b) The code programmed with CAAR for riveting satisfied the demand of high positioning accuracy.The application verified through practice meets requirements, such as, shorting product seed-time,making the design flow regular, stressing the features of the automatic rivet technology, etc.
