In recent years, the degree of automation of the ship is increasing as the ship transportation industry goes to prosperity, and the development trend of the marine fields is the large-scale, specialization and new-type. But the crews get few opportunities to use the new equipment and contact new technologies to seize practical training. Therefore, most of the domestic and abroad research institutions achieve the purposes of training and scientific research through mathematical simulation of the ship systems and the development of marine engine and sailing simulator. Traditional marine engine simulator is a combination of software and hardware. It has the weakness of high development cost, maintenance and repair difficulty. So it can’t meet or adapt to the new demand of the shipping industry. In recent years, rapid development of virtual reality technology can compensate for its shortcomings. From the initial military and aerospace simulation, now it’s applied to very extensive range such as the civilian vessels, medical, construction and other fields. The virtual reality system has the advantage of intuitive, realistic, interactive and immersive. It is a new hot spot for countries in the development of the marine fields; and will become the development trend of the new generation of marine simulator.This research chooses the 300,000-ton Crude Carrier-VLCC(Very Large Crude Carrier) " Yuan Xing Lake " built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. as the mother vessels. With the combination of VLCC marine engine simulator project of the Marine Automation lab, Dalian Maritime University, a virtual reality system for a VLCC ship power station is developed. According to the actual control logic of the VLCC ship power station, completed the ship power station main and emergency switchboard control logic in a virtual environment and achieved interoperability between the virtual power station systems and marine engine simulator.The subject’s main contents include the following sections:Established VLCC ship power station power system mathematical model, completed system simulation, established a three-dimensional model of the ship power station main and emergency switchboard, the nameplate of the main and emergency switchboard and dial texturing, and three-dimensional model is optimized thorough rendering. Based on XNA and Visual Studio 2008 technology, the three-dimensional model of the ship power station main and emergency switchboard are led into the virtual environment, and the virtual roaming operation of the main and emergency switchboard is achieved in accordance with the VLCC ship power station actual control logic. Use UDP communication protocol, communication between the virtual reality technology and the marine engine simulator is achieved. In actual running, this system has a good user interface and real-time operability.The study and design of the system has a certain degree of innovation and practicality, as well as some guidance and reference value for research and design of the three-dimensional virtual reality technology in ship fields.
