Research On The Design Of Underground Public Space Environment In Land-Intensive Cities

The contradiction between the land non-renewability and social demand is emerging more and more seriously with the progress of social economy. The problems of environmental protection and energy reservation is more and more serious, while the increasing scarcity of architectural area at upper ground makes the transverse development ratio of urban usable space less and less. Consequently, as the subject of all kinds of urban activities, human beings have to try to exploit and utilize underground space and create a public space environment which is continuous, unhindered, variable and easily identified in accordance with human engineering. This is an indispensable procedure of the urban historical process and also the inevitable course of human social development. The inherent features and properties of urban underground space should be compatible with the extent, progress and achievement of urban development, and all forms that do not melt with the times will not be favorable to the social development progress. Human beings are the subject of social activities, and the urban public space has provided the place for social activities. However, there has been a universal population growth at different extent in every big main city in the world, along with shortage of resources and ecological degeneration, so the development of“ecological cities”has become the main trend of social consensus. In the progress of exploring“ecological cities”, underground public space has been recognized by people of different ages because of its special advantages. The utilization of underground public space of modern cities has brought deep changes to social and economical development. The exploitation and construction of urban underground space will no accommodate the requirement of modern social development with original mode.With the help of the natural property and essential properties of urban underground public space including some special type of underground space, the paper discusses the exploitation and utilization of urban underground public space at the angle of environmental art, including how to draw on advantages and avoid disadvantages, how to create a pleasant urban underground public space in better way and how to try best to weaken the mental discomfort brought by urban underground public space. The paper probes into the problem of how to create a more natural space environment and comfortable space sensation in urban underground public space from landscaping design concept and design methods. It proposes that the design of urban underground public space should follow the principle of“ecologization, systematization, functionalization and humanization”. On this basis, the design concept of systematization could be researched and discussed.A conclusion has been drawn that the design of urban underground public space is an effective approach to improve urban public space environment, and it also summarizes some designing opinions such as the optimization of urban underground public space environment, the exploitation of function and mental improvement.
