Packaged reinforced retaining wall which has the advantages of low-cost, simplified construction technology, small space occupation and beautiful features, depends on the flexible tendons to maintain the stability of soil. Therefore, it is extremely vital in practice to enhance the study and design level of the composite structure to allow the application of the structure in high-amplitude seismic zones. At present, the study of packaged reinforced retaining wall theory lags its practice. Therefore, it is necessary and urgent to make the research on the dynamic response and design methods of packaged reinforced retaining wall that is in seismic zones.Based on the research work made by pioneers, the paper gives a further study of the working mechanism and the theory of design and calculation of packaged reinforced retaining wall. What is more, a dynamic finite element analysis is made under the seismic loading and some other dynamic characteristics are also researched. The details are as follows:In the first part, the development history and study conditions of packaged reinforced retaining wall at home and abroad is reviewed firstly, and its feature, destroy model, calculation theory are summarized. Then, the reinforcing mechanism of plastic geogrid—friction and quasi-cohesion, is analyzed finally.In the second part, a packaged reinforced retaining wall in one testing site of GUANG(TONG) to DA(LI) railway is given as a referenced object. Based on the finite element software ANSYS, with the application of band-soil contact elements, a nonlinear finite element model of packaged reinforced retaining wall which consists of soil elements, band elements and contact elements is built and analyzed under the seismic actions. Finally, Acceleration amplification effect of packaged reinforced retaining wall and regulations of band tension of geogrid, potential rupture plane and horizontal displacement changes are acquired.In the third part, sensitivity parameters that influence the horizontal displacement of packaged reinforced retaining wall are analyzed and change regulations of horizontal displacement that is influenced by modulus of elasticity, reinforcing length, properties of paddings and different heights are obtained, therefore, some rewarding suggestions for the practical engineering design are summarized.
