With the rapid development of economy, city traffic problems have become increasingly prominent. The vehicle needs frequent start, shift and stop so that the labor intensity of its driver is great. Especially for the driver of city bus, which adopt the manual transmission, the work situation is even worse. Automatic transmission technology of the vehicle is an effective way to solve this problem, and automatic control of the clutch is one of the keys of the technology. Through the study of domestic and foreign research achievements in the clutch automatic control technology, according to our national actual situation, a clutch automatic control system for bus is developed.The clutch automatic control system is adapted from the traditional mechanical clutch. On the basis of comparing multiple programs of automatic clutch actuator, and according to the actual situation of bus, and combined with EPS system, an electronic pneumatic booster clutch actuator is designed. The automatic operation of bus clutch is under the booster of high pressure gas and the control of electronic control unit. The control of clutch engagement is the key and difficulty of the clutch automatic control technology. On the basis of studying the characteristics of diaphragm spring clutch, the evaluation index of clutch engagement quality is proposed, and the control strategy of automatic clutch is developed. The hardware and software of electronic control unit are also completed.The clutch automatic control system can not only be supporting installation of the new vehicle, but also be used for transforming the vehile using traditional clutch device, which provides an effective way for portability of bus driving.
