The rapid development of electronic technology creates the conditions for the automobiles to become intelligentize, internetize and multimediaize. The development of automobile electronic products brings new vital force and energy to the development of vehicle industry, has the broad market space and applied prospects. At present, electronic systems applied in cars has become one of the most active research fields in automobile electronic products’development.Microcontroller is widely used in automobile electronic products. Most of electronic systems applied in cars use microcontroller as the control chip. To popularize the use of microcontroller in new type electronic products has a important sense. It helps to go along technical innovation, seek and confirm the direction of Chinese automobile electronic products’development, and made the development of the new generation of automobile electronic products become imperative under the situation.This paper introduces the present situation both domestic and overseas, and developmental trend of automobile electronic products, also the realistic meanings of developing information display system applied in cars. At present, a kind of design of the hardware and the software of information display system applied in cars based on the microcontroller technology. Divides the system into several modules rationally, and introduces the structure and the function of each module particularly.This information display system applied in cars adapts to use on the personal cars. It is composed of a system based on microcontroller and client software which is installed on the user’s PC. The microcontroller system uses PIC18F4550as the control chip, mainly includes LCD display module, keyboard scan module, LED display module and USB interface module. The information is displayed on LCD. The driver can choose one of them by pressing the keys, and show it on the LED out of the car. When connected the microcontroller system with PC by USB interface, the user can modify the information stored in the microcontroller by using the client software.The practice has proved that the design of information display system applied in cars has practical meaning. It can help the user to transmit information correctly, convenient the communion between the user and both passersby and other drivers, commendably adapt the need of the diversification and the individuation on the market of automobile electronic products. However, if want to use this system practically, more betterment is needed.
