Being the city’s "root" and "soul", heritage sites have witnessed the vicissitudes of a city; condensed the hard work and wisdom of ancient ancestors; carried the history and culture of a city; and they are main vectors and media to meet the modern finding their roots and archaizing; also they have been very unique landscape and tourism resources. For China’s urban construction having entered its "golden age", the protection and utilization of heritage sites is both an opportunity and a challenge. The sites are no longer isolated static but dynamic links. The key is to give sites with "new life" in new historical situation, making it a unique modern urban landscape and being merged into our lives.This paper briefly states the relationship between sites protection and modern cities, sites landscape and urban landscape, respectively. And proposes sites are not only become the burden but also will become the driving force and capital of modern urban development. With Modern science and technology and design concepts combined with the principle of sites protection, therefore China’s five thousand years of civilization and culture can be passing on.Taking the Royal Walk of Tang Darning Palace as an example, this article is one research paper brings heritage sites into modern urban landscape on the premise of sites protection. Taking sites protection and related principles as theoretical basis for practice, with appropriate involvement of modern landscape design concepts and techniques, the sites are no longer simply limited to a simple form of protection and exhibition, but based on the current combination of modern design concepts and techniques, and with the help of landscape design to illustrate the unique spiritual and cultural connotations of the ruins. Let us together with descendants experience in life our long historical accumulation and deep national intension by leaving the spirit of the ancient ruins to cultural epitome of the modern urban landscape.This paper is based on the protection of heritage sites, through the analysis of the design concept of modern urban landscape, to help ruins landscape be a unique epitome of the modern urban landscape.
