As one kind of large navigational constructions on channel, bridge can not only affect aperture but also the areas before and after. Generally "Bridge waters" refers to bridge and the areas affected by bridge before and after. The sailing of ship in bridge waters can be restricted by the width of aperture, and what’s more the turbulent flow caused by the construction of bridge can has a bad effect on ship’s sailing. Wherever, there is no uniform standard from the channel planning and maritime management department at present, on how to demarcate the bridge waters, as well as the clear definition. Thus, the Bridge Waters has been defined in the thesis, according to the provision on safety management waters of navigational bridge in The Dictionary of Water Transportation Technique. Bridge Waters mean the areas perpendicular to bridge axis that may affect the bridge safety and ship navigational order, which include bridge aperture as well as the specific waters before and after the bridge. The demarcation of bridge waters has been divided into two parts. The first part demarcates bridge safety waters, aiming at ships passing through aperture, which refers to the aperture areas and waters bef and aft it. Based on the theory of ship’s veering in wide-angle and ship drifting, this thesis put forwards the calculation model of veering braking waters and emergency waters for ship out of control considering wind and flow. This simulator has been applied to test and verify the theoretical model. The second part demarcates bridge prohibited waters, targeting ships sailing parallel to the bridge or shipping around the bridges. Ship sailing in this area is unallowable. Drift model has been used to calculate bridge prohibited waters and KUNZI model has been put into calculating the rate for ship-bridge collision in bridge watersThis thesis comes up with calculation model of veering braking waters and emergency waters for ship out of control to define bridge safety waters. And case study manifest that the safety waters of Jiuzhou navigational waters of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge contains1000m of veering braking waters and3000m of emergency waters for ship out of control. To get bridge prohibited waters, this thesis calculates dangerous waters of ship out of control and uses KUNZI model to gain the probability of ship to bridge collision. The reckoning shows prohibited waters from100m to800m of Jiuzhou navigational waters, and the collision probability from2x10-8to1x10-6.
