The distribution network is a key link in the power system for the end user. It also is the bottleneck of improving the reliability of power supply. Therefore to improve the reliability of power supply is a major goal of the smart distribution network. Strengthening the construction of distribution network automation system and taking use of its feeder automation to improve the reliability of power supply have become themes of the current distribution network construction.Moreover, in the construction process of distribution automation, large quantity and wide spread of the distribution terminals are the main reasons leading to the high cost in the construction and maintenance of distribution automation. It can be solved by the plug and play of standardized designed distribution terminals.This paper starts by analyzing the basic requirements of feeder automation in smart grid and studies mainly on fast fault isolation technique in distribution network and distribution terminals based on IEC61850standard to improve the reliability of power supply. Theoretical analysis, simulation experiment and field test are combined all through the whole study. Here are some main achievements as follows:1) The model of intelligent terminal based on IEC61850standard is established.2) The model of fast self-healing in feeder automation based on IEC61850standard is established.3) The model of communication between distribution terminals based on IEC61850-80-1standard is established.4) The model of communication between distribution terminal and master station based on IEC61850-80-1standard is established.5) The distribution terminal contains all above models based on IEC61850standard is developed. This paper provides technology basis for the study of distribution terminal based on IEC61850standard.
