With the rapid development of modern industries, human demands for energy areincreasingly apparent. However, conventional energy resources available on the earth aredecreasing gradually. Therefore, the only way out is to utilize conventional energy in aplanned manner, to save energy as well as to develop new and renewable energy. Furthermore, wind power, as renewable energy, has become one of the energy resources to which allnations worldwide attach increasing attention.Wind farms are located in places where wind resources are abundant, mainly distributedin northern area like Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia etc. and coastal areas and islands from east tosouth. Since they are distributed widely and remotely with large installation capacities, remotemonitoring system is needed for centralized control, power distribution and remotemonitoring.Different wind turbines have different remote monitoring systems, therefore, the analysisin this paper has to be performed based on specific wind turbine, i.e. a2MW model producedby a wind power equipment manufacturing company. The research is aiming at exploring anappropriate centralized control solution suitable for current Chinese wind turbines withindependent intellectual property rights. This paper firstly introduces the general overview of wind power generation, remotemonitoring system of wind turbines and the current situation of researches at home andabroad on the system. Secondly, the demand of the wind turbine central monitoring system isanalyzed, and moreover the design requirements for the overall system are put forward. Basedon the previous analysis, the overall system structure design is performed, includinghardware/software system structure design, network mode and communication interfaces ofthe whole network as well as central monitoring system organization. Thirdly, the papermakes research on the communication subsystem, real-time monitoring and data managementsubsystem of the central monitoring system. Finally, a conclusion of the research.
