Research On The Modern Application And Design For The Structure Principle Of Traditional Vernacular Dwelling In Lingnan Area

Traditional Lingnan Folk Houses are of great importance in Chinese rich and colorful traditional folk house architectures for its unique cultural value, vivid architect features and rich construction techniques and history. With the Reform and Opening policy implemented firstly in Guangdong in the1980s, western architecture theories flooded in and the construction of city residences mounted up, which makes modern dwelling architecture a breakfront change as compared with traditional Lingnan Folk Houses. The construction principles of traditional Lingnan Folk Houses are seldom employed in modern house design.The present study focuses on Traditional Lingnan Folk Houses. In the demonstration of traditional folk house features of Lingnan areas, we refine the construction principles, explore the application foundation and approaches of the principles to modern architectures, and according to related present practices, we propose an approach to design modern house applying the construction principles of traditional Lingnan Folk Houses, which we hope will provide reference for later design of city residences.The following five parts form the entire paper:Part1Illuminates research purposes and significances of the present study on Traditional Lingnan Folk Houses.Part2Abstracts the construction principles of traditional Lingnan Folk Houses in the discussion of the regional features of Lingnan and the features of Lingnan Folk Houses.Part3Analyses the defects of modern city residence design and explains the application of Lingnan Folk Houses construction principles.Part4Studies related practice and explores the modern application approach of the construction principles of traditional Lingnan Folk Houses.Part5Proposes the approach to design modern house applying the Construction principles of traditional Lingnan Folk Houses.
