Pump is one of the general machinery and is used widely in the world. Pump selectionsoftware can find suitable pump among thousands of pumps quickly, so it’s favored by pumpmanufacturers. But it’s hard to keep database for pump selection software up to date, whichrestricts the usage of pump selection software.Database of pump selection software is made up of performance data, performance curvedata and installation data. Pump brochure is created base on those data too. For most thepump selection software, we need input data manually or import data after pump brochure isready. Once some pump parameters are changed, we need update pump brochure anddatabase again. Furthermore, there’s big difference between pump brochure and pumpselection software, it’s difficult to reuse data for creating pump brochure.In this article, we provide a process which combines pump brochure with pump selectionsoftware. We design an open pump selection system, define the system architecture andimplement core arithmetic. Followings are what we investigated in this article:(1) Bind pump database with DWG file base on DwgDirect. Bind database fieldwith installation diagram while designing pump brochure, thus we can updatedatabase while editing diagram and update diagram while editing data. Createperformance curve with least squares curve fitting base on experimental data indatabase, and bind performance curve with database, thus we can updateperformance curve and database in two-way.(2) Create most part of pump brochure via exporting DWG files base on pumpdatabase, including creating installation diagram pages and performance curvepages via assembling performance curve diagram and installation diagram,creating synthetic characteristics in logarithmic coordinate system base on work range of all pumps.(3) Calculate pump capacity and head base on expected work condition andresistance of pump system, select pumps in database base on calculated capacity,head, medium, installation style and pump work range(4) Design and implement an open pump selection system because there’s differentpump selection rule for different pump usage. End users can implement theirown data pretreatment and pump comparison arithmetic, and load it into pump selectionsystem for selecting pumps.This pump selection system is suitable for most of the pump selection task after used bypump companies. And experts in pump selection area can implement their own arithmeticwith the open interface. Moreover, this system combines pump selection with designingpump brochure tightly, saves much time about making pump brochure and maintainingdatabase, and keeps database up to date easily.
