Layout problem is the key problem in the production planning of enterprise, how todesign out a layout which is good enough to meet the constraints under the workshopenvironment and get a minimum logistics cost is a problem around the world, it is not onlythe enterprises are concerning about, but also many scholars home and abroad have beenresearching for a long time. For this demand of enterprises, this paper used genetic algorithmand the computer simulation technology to seek out a most optimal layout design in an actualplant.First, this paper expounded the present research status about the facility layout inworkshop home and abroad, and it introduced the key steps and methods of the discrete eventsystem simulation technology and its applications in workshop facility layout, whichprovided fundamental basis for follow-up research. Then according to existing workshoplayout models and algorithms, it established a complex mathematical model of the workshopfacility layout combining with the actual production example, after that, according to geneticalgorithm, it designed suitable genetic operators to solve this model, and it was successfullyrealized the solution in the MATLAB GA toolbox. Last, it used eM-Plant simulation softwareto test if the solution was valid or not, and defined three evaluation indexes of the layout, forseeking a more perfect layout, it presented three improving points, including improvingprocessing performance of the equipments, increasing the quantity of key equipments andimproving the process route, the simulation result showed that the third improvement made abetter layout, could bring an extra economic benefit.This paper effectively combined genetic algorithm with the computer simulationtechnology in the layout problem, it succeeded in solving the layout model of the productionstatus in a manufacturing enterprise, which reduced unnecessary design costs in theproduction for the enterprise, and the research achievement in this paper will provide otherenterprises a good model in solving workshop facility layout problem.
