Study On The Strategy Of Transportation Demand Management Based On Travel Choice

As one of the advanced means of an effective solution to urban traffic problems,traffic demand management has been widely recognized and applied in the domesticand foreign developed cities. Since the1990s, our country begins to have research onthe theory of traffic demand management, and then some cities put traffic demandmanagement policies into practice. However, with the rapid development of ourcountry’s economy, the ceaseless improvement of city population, the rapid growth ofthe city residents’ travel demand and the lack of traffic demand managementexperience, the cities’ traffic demand management did not obtain remarkable result.Compared with the developed city, we have obvious gap in solving city trafficproblems, improving traffic environment and the efficiency.This paper first summarizes the existing research results of traffic demandmanagement, elaborates in traffic demand management related concepts and theories,and then analysis of influencing factors of residents travel mode choice. Notedresidents travel mode choice is the essence of the pursuit of travel quality, subsequentanalysis of the successful experience of the developed city in traffic demandmanagement. Finally according to the incentive effect on the travel quality principle,set traffic demand management strategy.
