In the winter, snow cover and ice will bring hidden troubles with safety and efficiency. Inorder to ensure the free driving and traffic safety, to avoid, or to some extent, reduce trafficaccidents, and to improve traffic capacity and operation efficiency,Measures must be taken toremove ice and snow on the road. Common mechanical and artificial snow removal has largeengineering quantities, low operating efficiency, while bestrewing melting snow salt causesserious prejudice to the environment and ecology. Therefore, the paper proposed to pave saltsnowmelt asphalt pavement, in order to realize the function of the road surface melting snow.By contrasting the three methods of asphalt mixture: substitution of volume densitydesign--density method, substitution method,and method of synthetic gradation, this paperfinally recommends substitution of volume density design--density method to design saltasphalt mixture in different contents.Through an analysis of the road performance with thedifferent salt (IceBane and MFL), the different proportion salt asphalt mixture, it is shownthat: with the increase of salt content, high temperature stability,low temperature resistance,water stability and other routine pavement performance declines. But this declines, especiallythe IceBane asphalt mixture, is of no significance. This study also compares the waterstability performance of IceBane and MFL asphalt mixture with the same amount of salt, wediscover that Icebane asphalt mixture is particularly better than MFL asphalt mixture.Themechanism of reducing the freezing temperature of water was explained based on the vaporpressure drop theory. Dilute solution conductivity test was used to determinate solution law ofeffective ingredient, through alternating air void, salt content,soaking time, temperature,loadcondition, and soaking methods, it analysed various factors of snowmelt performance, and airvoid, salt content are dominating factors. This paper used natural snowmelt test, inhibitingfreezing test, and accelerating melting test to evaluate snowmelt performance of salt asphaltmixture; the results shown that IceBane asphalt mixture has good effect of melting snowperformance; simulated and designed rainfall on the road surface to prove timeliness ofsnowmelt performance within five years.Through having paved the testing road, this papersummed up construction process of snowmelt pavement, and methods of quality controlling.
