Majority of existing highway in China are second-class or under second-class highway.Considering axle load composition and limited by construction funds, soil stabilized withinorganic binding materials such as lime and lime fly ash is used as road base and subbase.However, in actual case, the disadvantages of lime stabilized soil and lime fly ash stabilizedsoil such as low early strength, bad water stability, poor durability and complicity ofconstruction have seriously affected the quality and service life of highway. There are manyways of soil reinforcement, usually including physical method, chemical method andcomprehensive method. Despite there are many ways of soil reinforcement, the selection ofreinforcement material is most critical. Whether can achieve the purpose of soilreinforcement, saving investment and shortening construction period are the bases forreinforcement material selection.Soil stabilizer is a new comprehensive technique, which is adding admixtures into soil,resulting in physical and chemical changes, thereby changing the physical and mechanicalproperties of the soil, to meet the requirement of engineering. Because of wide range ofapplication, high efficiency of reinforcement and convenience for construction, the solistabilizer technique is applicable for current subgrade and foundation reinforcement.Based on research status at home and abroad on soil stabilizer, the reinforcementmechanism and pavement performance of soil stabilizer is studied in this paper through aseries of indoor and outdoor experiments; according to optimum mix design, an optimummix scheme is proposed; within the optimum mix, pavement performance of mixture suchas unconfined water-saturated compression strength, water stability coefficient, frozenstability coefficient, anti-shrinkage capability, anti-fatigue capability is tested; and acomparative analysis of lime stabilized materials is also made; verifying the performance ofsoil stabilizer through entity engineering, the key points on construction and quality controlis proposed. The results have shown that: soil stabilizer material can enhance the earlystrength of stabilized soil substantially, shorten the construction period effectively and saveinvestment; stabilized soil has better water stability, anti-shrinkage capability and othermechanical properties, which can improve the quantity and increase service life ofpavement. The soil stabilizer has a promising application prospect in highway engineering.
