With the development of national economy, residents’ increasing travel requirements andthe rapidly growing of motor vehicles, the travel of the residents becomes more and moreconvenient while it brings about a lot of problems,such as city traffic problems,environmental problems and so on. To avoid and reduce suck problems like urban trafficcongestion, traffic environmental pollution, traffic accidents,developing public transportvigorously becomes an effective means to achieve sustainable development of urbanpassenger transport. This paper puts forward to a method of urban transit network planningmethod for small and medium-sized city. The main chapters are organized as follows.The second chapter analyzes the small and medium-sized city characteristics of its roadnetwork density, layout of the road network, road grade and road section of the roadsystem,brings forward some differences between small and medium-sized cities andmetropolitan in the characteristics of the road system, analyzes the basis of small andmedium-sized urban residents bus travel characteristics and nature of the land, andclusteringly analyzes the small and medium-sized urban land category with five clusteringfactor including the density of public transportation network,the density of bus stops, bus triprate, the bus-sharing rate as well as the residential population density.The third chapter introduces a method of the small and medium-sized urban trafficzoning, establishes a model for the transit network indicators and the transit trip rate, andcalibrate the relational model of transit network density, stop density and bus trip rate for eachtype of land with transit survey data of Zhaoqing city.The fourth chapter studys on the travel behavior of urban residents.Four step method isused to analyze the public transport demand forecasting in urban public transport planningand compares the application of different models under different conditions.The fifth chapter researches the transit network layout, mainly divided into two levels:bus primary and secondary network layout and bus Extension network deployment.Flow-based coupling method is used to determine the transit backbone while using themethod of controling the network indicators determines the extensions.By controling the mainindicators of the whole network,the final transit network can be achieved by adjusting theinitial transit network.The sixth chapter takes the transit network planning in zhaoqing city as a case, usingsmall and medium-sized urban public transportation network layout method in Zhaoqing cityand the transit network planning results were evaluated. The results show that the proposedmethod is feasible.
