Intermittent mechanism is the core mechanism of automatic diecutter, and directlyaffects machine’s working performance, speed, die cutting precision and dimensions. Now, anew intermittent mechanism composed of conjugate cams and sector gear has beendeveloped according to relative data of a Swiss made diecutter SP102.By mapping SP102diecutter’s data, the Pro/E model of EC102intermittent mechanismis completed. According to the mechanism model,the simulation analysis for motions of theintermittent mechanism is performed,and laws of motion are also obtained.The motion law of EC102conjugate cams curves has been deduced according to YoMakino’s theory of general cam curve by numerical iteration method, and Pro/E Mechanismand Trace curve. This duction also makes it possible to solve the errors on cam surfaceprofile and phase deviation.Three factors affect gripper time sequence also have been deduced from motionsimulation based on the Pro/E model, include the stroke of double elbow mechanism, thedynamic to static ratio of intermittent mechanism, and the cam curves properties.On base of the parameters of EC102diecutter, the intermittent mechanism of EC106was successfully developed. To guarantee the mechanism safety and reliability, someimportant parameters such as pressure angle, radius of curvature have been double checked.With a real work condition simulation of multi-body systems dynamics model of EC106intermittent mechanism in ADAMS, the data of dynamics displacement, velocity andacceleration of gear at the speed of7,500sheets per hour has been obtained. Through thefinite element method, we analysed the displacement, stress and mode of shake frame, toensure the strength and stiffness of intermittent mechanism, and to prevent resonating. Bymeans of cam curve optimization and mass unbalance reduction, dynamics performance ofintermittent mechanism was improved. This new intermittent mechanism composed of conjugate cams and sector gear takes theplace of parallel indexing cam, which improves the speed and the precision of die cutting,reduces machine dimensions, realizes container transport, reduces production cost, makes thediecutter more competitive.
