Research On IDM-Based Building Information Delivery Standard

Building Information Modeling technology is having a profoundimpact on the construction industry, bringing a new change for theindustry. BIM is a combination of building engineering and informationtechnology. Facilitating the integration and collaboration betweendifferent disciplines involved in an AEC project is one of the majorfocuses of BIM. IFC schema provides a basis for the data share andexchange between different disciplines. However, implementation of theIFC compliant software solution for specific purpose is hampered by thelack of specific exchange requirements definitions and can’t ensurecomplete and compatible data exchanges. Thus, there is need for IDMstandard to make clear definition to the process as well as exchangerequirement during lifecycle.This thesis first introduces a BIM based collaborative work mode bysharing and extracting the model views. The core of the sharing is theestablishment of view exchange standard about linked model anddefinition of exchange requirement based on the design process, leadingto the formulation of the IDM standard again from the perspective ofactual design. The paper intents to make a comprehensive introduction toIDM framework, components, research status, and focuses on thedefinition of process and data requirement of building engineering duringdesign phase, combined with IDM standard. Process maps coveringarchitecture, structure, plumbing, mechanical engineering and electricalengineering are made to show how to realize BIM-based collaborativework. And the details of each process activity are summarized in tables.Then the exchange requirements referred to the object and attribute ofBIM model which should be delivered in special design phase are defined in particular tables. Thus, the paper provides a reference for theformulation of the BIM standard and BIM–based building collaborativedesign and software solutions.
