With the development of technology, market economy grow sharply, individual products are gradually concerned by consumers. It is the development of individual needs and general improvement of product functional characteristics that makes customers focus on product features more and more when they are buying products. Because of differences on psychological perception between customers and designers, the key issues on decision of product design are that how to identify customer needs and how to integrate emotional needs into product design.In recent years, with the rapid development of car industry, total capacity of domestic cars has been much larger than actual needs. With the rapid development of economy, life has improved, road system gets better and better. Both automobile market and car market get rapid development. Besides price and function, people concern about emotional features of cars, including form, color, material and so on.This paper presents a method to find effects of color on consumers’ perception both from interior and exterior. The research is mainly aimed at a youth group by using the Kansei engineering theory.First, select the appraisal words for both interior color and exterior color. Construct the questionnaire based on the selected image words and representative pictures. Hand out the questionnaire to proper people and analyze the survey results to optimize the final questionnaire. Semantic differential method, the correlation coefficient analysis and factor analysis are used in this part.In the study of interior color,84colors are selected according to the Munsell System. Neural network are used to establish relationship models both between overall preferences and Kansei images and between elements of interior color and product images.Form is taken into consideration during study of car appearance. In this part, image words which can represent both color and form are selected to construct the questionnaire. Then Theory Type Ⅰ is used to measure relative importance of product image. BPN is used to find the relationship between design elements and product images.This study will provide a technology support on color design for car designers. It is also recommended to emotional design of other products.
