With the development of socioeconomic situation and progress in terms of science andtechnology, the speed of urbanization and mechanization of transportation is increasing.Meanwhile problems such as the unreasonable land use structure is becoming to appear,which leads to plenty of trouble to the city operation and bad impacts on the health of citydevelopment. To solve the traffic problem in a city, the fundamental countermeasure iscoordinating the relationship between the traffic and land use which is very complicated andinteractive. The theoretical and empirical research has indicated that the coordinationbetween traffic and land use is the key to solve the problem of traffic jam and to realize theeconomical land utilization so as to promote the urban development. Based on the relativestudies home and abroad, this paper analyzes the status quo of traffic and land use inChangchun. Further, the problems shown in the traffic jam and land use are generalized.Finally, the countermeasures to promote the coordination between traffic and land use inChangchun are proposed which can shed light on the solutions of traffic problems etc.The literature review is the first part. Theoretical and empirical researches in terms ofthe relationship between urban traffic and land use are generalized to provide support fortheory and methodology. The second part is the theoretical studies. The definitions of urbantraffic and land use are clarified and interactive factors hence the feedback mechanism of"Origin-Flow" between them are analyzed in order to better understand the relationshipbetween them from the perspective of spatial arrangement in a city. The third part is thecurrent situation analysis. The city expansion, land use structure as well as the developmenttrend of Changchun is analyzed. Based on the status quo of urban traffic and thecharacteristics of people’s trip, this paper attempts to explore the disadvantage between trafficand land use in Changchun. The fourth part is specialized issues analysis. According to thetraffic flow volumes at all the main intersections in Changchun which is graded, this paperfurther explore the degree of traffic flow and the reasons of traffic jam due to the land useregarding the condition of residential and employment land use in Changchun. Thecountermeasures are discussed in the fifth part. After defining the coordinative development,several suggestion are raised in order to solve the problems between the urban traffic and landuse in Changchun. Inspired by the idea of "people oriented" and "sustainable development",the countermeasures include: leading the spatial structure of the city to "multicenter" pattern, establishing the smart development mechanism of urban traffic and land use, following the"proper density" model of land use, building the pattern of "high accessibility and lowtransportation demand" as well as the coordinative development model of Transit OrientedDevelopment(TOD) based on public transport, formulating the coordinative planning ofurban traffic and land use improve the traffic condition of Changchun.
