For a long time, the charge of urban residents’heating in northern China is based on the residential area rather than the actual use of heat metering. Due to the lack of scientific measurement methods, it results in bad users’awareness of energy conservation and serious waste of resources. According to the domestic unreasonable situation, this paper develops a microcontroller-based heat meters on the basis of referencing the relevant technical information both at home and abroad. Calorimeter is a device of measuring the heat. It will display the amount of heat used by users, which decides how much they should pay. In this way, we achieve the goal of heating metering and charging. So the use and promotion of the heat meter will play a huge role in energy conservation, heating system reform and improving energy utilization efficiency of the heating system.This paper describes specifically the design methods of heat meters based on PIC16F877A MCU, the system consists of temperature collection flow data collection、heat conversion and human-machine interface (keyboard, display). Firstly, the measurement principle of the device were described in detail, a specific derivation of the dynamic formula of heat measurement is carried out, and then a reasonable heat measurement algorithms is selected according to the measurement principle; Secondly, the system functional components and the design of system’s hardware and software are completed based on the selected algorithm, system requirements, the main system application occasions. Finally, this paper has done a deep study in the system’s low power consumption and interference. It also adopted a series of effective measures to significantly reduce system power consumption and improve the system noise immunity.Calorimeter designed in this paper achieves the measurement of heating system flow, temperature and heat; the LCD display of heat, flow, temperature and other in formations. The system will save all dates when power is off and return to normal measurement when the power is restored. The experimental tests reveals that the design of the heat meters based on PIC16F877A microcontroller meets the "Republic of China urban construction industry standards CJ128-2000calorimeter ". The overall accuracy of the device reach to the2nd accuracy standards.
