Residence has close relationship with climate, it must be able to adapt to thelocal climate, and change it for the people to provide a more convenient, comfortableplace.Tongdao county, which is located in southern Xiangxi is a traditional settlementand the architecture resource rich areas. The climate here has the characteristics ofChina’s continental climate, such as hot summer and cold in winter, monsoon climate, rain and heat in the same quarter and so on. In addition to the longsummer andwinter extreme climate, the frequent rainfall throughout the year, humidclimate is amajor feature of Xiangxi climate. Faced with this climate, Dong traditional Ganlan-style residence as a mature and stable architectural form, properly adapted totheir local geographical conditions and climatic factors, to the original low-techpassive ecological building design strategies to achieve the insulation across the heat, pay attention to ventilation and moisture environment and other measures to improvethemicro-climate, with low-cost housing to meet the practical function. However, with the people’s living standards improve, traditional houses of Dong to propose newfunctional requirements, the resulting monotony of brick instead of the traditionalhouses of Dong status. Therefore, starting from the climate adaptation, to explore andextend this low-technology eco-design strategies, without changing the plane of theDong Features traditional houses under the premise of the functional requirements ofthe new integration, the traditional Ganlan-style of Dong adapt to the new residentialfunctional requirements, which is to improve people’s living standards, protectthe Dong village of features, has a practical significance. Therefore, this article first from the people, the relationship between architectureand climate expounds the various elements of climate on human comfort effect, theestablishment of the indoor thermal comfort zone and the link between climate factors, the formation of climatic factors and human comfort architectural design standards, and climate impacts of different levels of design principles. Secondly, the main objectof study for this paper, the origin of Ganlan-style houses, residential flat Ganlan-style Dong characteristics, construction techniques and Dong village structure, thesitefeatures make the system described in Dong village to create a complete image, and through the country of Dong field research, surveys and field measurements ofthe way houses in the area of climate adaptation in-depth study to explore the nature of traditional houses and the climate adaptation specific new functional requirements,to provide theoretical evidence for the following sections. Again, from the macro-level adaptation to climate and micro-level location for Dong traditional residentiallayout, outdoor space environment is analyzed, summarized the traditional houses ofeco-technology strategy, strengths and limitations, and through residential areas offunctional integration of Ganlan-style, make appropriate measures for improvementand recommendations. Finally, summarizes the Dong traditional residential ecologicaladvantages and functional integration of the improvement strategy.
