This paper presents a new approach on the study of power flow for compound gear trains based on the combination of gear basic units. The gear mechanism diagrams of basic units and the corresponding energy characteristic models, the constraint model of connecting units, energy characteristic model of compound gear trains are established; The analysis method for power flow of compound gear trains is studied,which also provide methods to improve the configuration of gear trains to achieve the design improvements of existing scheme.The paper uses a modeling approach based on unit energy characteristic state for kinematic conceptual design of gear trains. At first, Because of studying the energy connecting, gear mechanism is considered as the basic element, then based on prototypes of gear basic units, gear mechanism diagrams of basic units are set up using topological characteristics of mechanism. Secondly, energy vector is given to describe the motional and dynamitic characteristics. Finally, the energy characteristic model is got by using motion equation and energy conservation equation.The paper uses the combination of basic units to study the energy model of compound gear trains. The constraint models of connecting units are found according to analyzing combination rules and constraints. The state transition diagram of energy characteristics is set up to express the composition relationships between units and the characteristics transform of unit combining. The model of gear trains is built based on the state transition diagram of energy characteristics.This paper studies power plow of compound gear trains based on the combination of units. The analysis method of power flow is on the base of energy conversion and transmission equations had been discussed Using the power flow type as the evaluation criterion for transfer efficiency, the gear train configuration with circulating power flow is improved according to changing the unit type, which can achieve the design improvements...
