Research on the development of urban space had been the focused area. Researchers who worked on different subjects had investigated this topic from various of perspectives. Scholars of architecture and urban planning studied from the perspective of physical form. Sociologists studied from the composition of social relations and the spatial properties of social process. Economists studied from the law of urban economic growth. Geographers studied the formation and diffusion process of urban space. Political and economic scholars studied from the perspective of the urban process and the social structure.This paper, taking shanghai as an example, researches on the urban spatial structure evolution from the perspective of the industrial policy. In the paper we discusses the guiding role of industrial policy in urban spatial structure and explores the core dynamic mechanism of urban spatial structure evolution. We tries to provide reference for making policies of urban industrial development and urban space and land use.This paper is divided into seven chapters. Chapter one is the introduction of the background, significance of selecting the topic, the framework and methods for the study, and the innovation of this research. Chapter two is about the theories this research based on. Firstly, defines the concept of industrial policy and urban spatial structure. Secondly, expounds the theoretical foundation of the industry policy and the related theory of city space development. In the end, summarizes the research on the evolution of urban spatial structure guided by industrial policies. Chapter three is the research on the adjustment of industrial policy and urban spatial Structure in Shanghai between1949and1978.Shanghai develops urban space under the orientation of the industrial city before the reform and opening up. Chapter four is the research on the renewal of industrial policies and urban space structure in Shanghai between1979and1989. In the early Reform and opening up, Shanghai started to build four levels of urban structure in urban space development, reconstruct old city and construct second generation satellite towns, industrial policies had had a historic turning point. Chapter five is the research on the improvement of industrial policies and urban space structure in Shanghai between1990and1999. During the reform accelerating period, Shanghai develops urban space centering on the development of Pudong. Chapter six is research on the optimization of industrial policies and urban space structure in Shanghai since2000.In further reform period, Shanghai Set out to build multicore city space structure. Chapter seven is about the conclusions and insufficient of this paper. This chapter mainly summarizes the conclusion. Firstly, overviews the development and stage characteristic of industrial policy, and the industrial policy impact on the evolution of urban spatial structure in Shanghai. And then points out the insufficient of the study at the end of the paper.
