Schools are part of cultural heritage past through varies generations, also are regard as cradle cultivate future leaderships, thus as supporter of fundamental education it has to embrace the call of the time, and it features in long-term social impact. The design of a school reflects education concept as well as education system, a school facility and its environmental status enviably influences occupants’physical and mental health, transportation, and surrounding neighbor. Under this premise, what kind of school facilities can adapt to the era of social development needs is both construction industry and education sector has been actively exploring. Primary and secondary school buildings need to show the spirit of the times, need to meet functional requirements, the need to improve the quality of the environment, the need to create a user-friendly personalized space with the basic concept of quality education, the need to improve the quality of education, the need to develop and strengthen the concept of youth environment and improve community services, These craving worth the industry to pay attention to, because we have an obligation to offer healthier, more comfortable and economic learning space for the next generation. With the development of the concept regarding sustainable development strategy of sustainable development has penetrated into all walks of life,30%of the construction industry as the social consumption of energy production need more duty-bound to take on the important task of energy saving. In education sector of building industry the sustainable development present as development of’green school’. The concept of’green school’has been brought since1991in Denmark, by more than20years of research and practice development in the worldwide popularity and peak in1990s. Now, green schools have sprung up all over the world. It is reasonable to conclude that the development of green schools building is an inevitable trend within globe range, not only conforms to the development needs of the primary and secondary education also responded to the call of the sustainable development of the construction industry. Western developed countries have begun a large-scale new construction and renovation projects, Take U.S as an example, there are315schools are LEED certificated, what’s more the assessment method, management, operation, maintenance and environmental curriculum are more advanced comparing with the current situation in our country. China has280,000primary schools,85,000secondary schools with very few schools had green building certificate. The reason for this phenomenon is because lack of specific regulations and policies, inappropriate design and construction standard and poor operations management.During graduated study, author has been a year in UK as an exchange student seeks further study focus on sustainable school; try to analysis the difference between UK and China. Through contrast of building design, construction, operation, try to draw lessons from concepts, technologies and attempts to find a suitable way for primary and secondary schools to applied green strategies for current China. The first part carding a basic overview of the study, the second part of the paper made comparison from the point of view of policy, regulations, standards, the third part describes the two countries in the design approach, the design process, the similarities and differences of the design concept and elaborated suitable for primary and secondary school building design strategy, the fourth part discusses the construction, operation, maintenance and means difference, listed in Part five is best design practice both in UK and China in recent years, the sixth part offers recommendations for the development of sustainable school in China.
