This thesis aims at studying the Intersection Signal Timing positive influence on several related items, such as the average queuing length, vehicles delay time, stop rate and the capacity, so that we can provide the further basis for the timing decision. Through the timing optimization to improve the operation of urban traffic net and release the traffic pressure.Based on the existing analysis, this paper developed from the following parts: first, verify that PH could fit the arriving principles of the queuing systems of vehicles at the intersections with traffic signals, and PH counting method was also used to calculate the queuing length. By the PH type special character "can access proximally arbitrary reaching law and service law", making up the limitation of the traditional study which based on the analysis of intersection queue to assume the special law from reaching to obey, and solving" normal reaching" signal queue mode in the theory, to provide a realer description of the traffic. Then, build up the evaluation system of the intersection signal service in order to building an optimizing multi-target signal timing mode. Taking the queue length, the delay time, the stopping rate, the walking ability, the intersection saturate degree and the exhaust emission all into consideration to the optimize target, so that we can make up the old mode’s shortage for only considering the minimum delay of the total arrived vehicles. The last, design the self-adjustable multi-target signal timing optimization. Through the short time traffic flow calculating value, the use of genetic algorithm and calculate the optimal signal cycle and green split is more realistic than the traditional optimization methods, which is suitable for determining the green split in the intersection.
