With the high development of High-Speed train, the bogie, which is one of the most important parts of the High-Speed train, must make a variant to adapt to the most different climate and natural environment of different areas. The paper takes full advantage of available resources of enterprise and combines with Top-Down design theory and Top Basic Skeleton to achieve the rapid variant design of the bogie. Firstly, the parameterized model of crucial parts of the bogie is built with CATIA CAA secondary development based on Top-Down design theory, and coding it and storing it into the SQL Server2005data management system. Secondly, technical parameters is acquired by user requirements input dialog, then querying the bogie instance library in order to getting the most similar instance with the Nearest-Neighbor Approach and sending it to CATIA for checking; the parts which are not satisfied with the user need have to be modified. If the most similar instance is not found, a new part will be created on the basis of technical specifications. Except the instances, the database also keeps much other information such as user demand parameter table and variant rules, etc. The main points of the study are as follows:1) Top-Down design theoryStudied the use of Top-Down theory in CATIA modeling and variant design, and introduced the top basic skeleton to support the design information and change information to propagate from top to down;2) The retrieval and modify of the High-Speed Train bogie instances libraryStudied the theory technical and implementation details of the retrieval and modify of bogie instance, and how to get the most similar instance quickly and efficiently;3) Parametric design of bogie based on CAACreating the parametric bogie models based on CAA;4) The preservation and maintenance of bogie instance based on SQL ServerEstablished the bogie instance database and variant rule database, and the auto coding system is designed and implemented successfully.Finally, summarized the whole article by pointing out the improvements need to be finished.
