For the modern city, the vitality of the city, closely related to people, is an importantcriterion to evaluate a city’s pros and cons. Whether people’s living condition has beenassured, whether travel environment is beautiful, whether spiritual life is rich, all of these arebecoming more and more important to urban planners. With the rapid economic development and a large number of construction of urbaninfrastructure, more and more people use motorized transport. Consequently, trafficcongestion is getting increasingly serious. With the overall quality improvement, environmental protection and energy conservation has become hot, and green travel ideasgradually attracted people’s attention. Slow traffic space, which will lead to major changes, has become increasingly important in city’s transportation system. However, there are manyresearches on the slow urban transport system and abundant theories at home and abroad, butless for the urban space of slow traffic, and the slow environmental quality is poor. Whilepeople’s life philosophy is constantly changing, increasingly focused on improving the qualityof life, and demand on leisure, recreation, fitness is increasingly urgent. Therefore, in thecontext of a harmonious society, analyzing and researching on urban slow traffic space isindispensably necessary and urgent. This paper analyzes the city slow traffic system from the perspective of user-friendlydesign, and then studies the detailed design of slow traffic. By the five levels of requirementof Maslow, the author gets three angles of view for the designing of the slow traffic space:survive, relationship and development. From these three aspects, the author conducts in-depthanalysis on urban slow traffic space and makes user-friendly design proposals from fouraspects, which are access, facilities, green landscape and other modes of convergence.
