Water is essential resources for mankind’s survival and production activities. Nevertheless, the current serious water crises, like for the shortage and pollution of water resources, have become principal constraints on the ecological environmental construction and the development of cities. Therefore, research on the sustainable development strategy for water resources, not only to meet the needs of the present, but also not to endanger the requirement of future generations, becomes more and more impotant, particularly for the drought in Northwest China’s cities.Yulin city, with complex terrain environment, stretching sandy areas and crisscross ravines, is one of the worst arid regions in our country. Recently, with the further development of the energy and chemical base, more and more serious consequences have been caused, such as ground water levels fall, rivers depletion, soil desertification and soil erosion so on. With the continuous improvement of living standards and the destruction of ecological environment, people start to consider more about the quality of their living environments and the improvement of the urban ecological environment, which result in the increase of urban green space area day by day. Public Park is an organic ingredient in urban green space system and junction between the artificial environment and the natural environment. Public Park can improve the quality of urban ecological environment, but could consume the valuable water resources at the same time. In order to improve the current situation, park green space should develop sustainably, especially for the green space water. Some water-saving methods proposed in this thesis are very helpful for promoting the sustainable use of water resources of park.Combined with domestic and foreign water-saving theoretical research and practical cases, this paper systemically summarizes the method in green space water-saving. They mainly include:choosing drought-enduring floristics, allocating drought-enduring plant, forming stable, drought tolerant, reversible and sustainable phytocoenosium; making full use of natural river and lake systems, arranging proportion and form of water in park green space reasonably; extending new-type water-saving irrigation mode and scientific management,reducing consumption and improving the water utilization efficiency; optimizing the rainwater collection system, including penetration use and saving use, increasing the soil moisture content and making up the lack of natural rainfall in the numbers and the unevenness of natural rainfall in time and space; and establishing reclaimed water use system, recycling the urban water resources, etc.Five representative park green spaces in Yulin city have been selectea as the research object, and the basic properties (e.g. the species, drought-enduring ability and resistance of common plants) of each park have also been surveyed. From the view of water-saving, we have carried out a purposeful investigation about the flooring materials, irrigation patterns and rainwater collection and reclaimed water utilization of the urban parks and green belts in Yulin city. Combined with the materials form Urban and Rural Planning Bureau and other relevant authorities of Yulin City, two major problems in water-saving have been confirmed:(1) the consumption of large quantities of water resources depends on the plant configuration, maintenance and management, and waterscape, and (2) the unconventional water, including rainwater resource and reclaimed water, are not fully utilized.Base on the practical investigation on Yulin’s urban park green space, together with the detailed theoretical research and abundant successful water-saving cases, some effective ways and methods suitable for Yulin’s park green space water-saving have been proposed. They mainly contain the rational selection of floristics and the optimization of plant allocation; scientific and reasonable water proportion and form; the integrated rainwater collection and utilization system, and the regional reclaimed water utilization system in a closer combination with the space surrounding. In this paper, the status of water-saving system in Yulin park green space have been researched, which not only could provide a reference to build a water-saving park green space for the future of Yulin City, but also could promote the sustainable development of Water-saving society in Yulin City.
